Digital(Physical) Garden

Interactive installation and intervention in public space, 1000 plaster casts, 4x5m

Presented during Academie Minerva Graduation Show 2026

This work derived from my interest of digitizing objects found in the local landscape, in order to understand them better and to understand the land that I inhabit. It consists of 1000 plaster casts of a local flower species that has been transformed through various digitizing processes. Its digital form casted in a plaster sculpture brings the digital world to our physical realm.

The work takes place in public space, in the city center of Groningen and exists together with that space – it changes with the weather, and it is shaped by the people and animals who visit it. The audience is completely free to rearrange the work – many people simply change the flowers’ location, but some also destroy or steal them. Because of that, the work is never steady but rather changes constantly and becomes part of the landscape.
