Digital Growth

Installation with visual interface reacting to sensor data, 70 x 40 x 30 cm

Installation presented during COMMON GROUND exhibition at KEL-30, Haren, 20.02.2026

On the same day I planted two almost identical fuchsia plants – one was a physical seed and the other one its digital twin. The digital plant was supposed to mimic the growth of the physical one, but instead, it replaced it. The physical seed never grew, but its existence continued in its digital version.

The digital fuchsia grows based on data collected from sensors that measure the conditions of the soil where the original seed was planted. Based on the current oxygen level and soil moisture, the digital plant continues its growth. The plant is displayed on a screen with the original pot in front of it, and the sensors with Arduino interface connecting the two objects.
